The Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) on Monday morning unveiled Powertex Malawi LTD as the sponsor of the first ever regional leagues top 8 competition.
Raphael Humba who is chairperson of SRFA had earlier indicated that they were in talks with potential sponsors in order to roll out a cup competition for teams that play in the second tier in the southern part of Malawi.
Powertex will sponsor the cup competition to the tune of K5 million. The cup will be known as Powerstart Tayale SRFA Top 8.
The competition will be contested by teams that shall finish in the top 8 of a preceding season.
This cup will surely help to improve the level of play in the country as it will also be a platform which Super League teams will use to scout players.
Before this cup, SRFA teams were only playing in their league which comprises 20 teams in the premier division and 20 teams in Division 1.
In a separate statement, CEO of Powertex Malawi LTD, Itaye Chidzero said that his company has a heart to support football even though they are a small firm. He said they hope that they can raise the support of sponsorship in the future when their business grows.
Many sports lovers have hailed the gesture shown by Powertex to come in and support football at a time when other big companies are pulling out.
Also in attendance was Powertex CEO, Itaye Chidzero; FAM president, Walter Nyamilandu; and Raphael Humba, chairperson of SRFA.
