Central Region football powerhouse Silver Strikers has kick started a move that wants to see Malawians taking an initiative in donating blood.
And applying a ‘do as I do’ principle, the team took time and gave out the blood yesterday at Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) offices in Lilongwe.
One of the team’s senior officials Thokozani Chimbali said this is the way to go in as far as helping those in need of blood supply in the country is concerned.
“As a team, we thought it wise to do the exercise following calls by the blood collecting body over insufficient supply of the liquid in hospitals,” explained Chimbali.
Following the step, the team wishes to appeal to Malawians to also borrow a leaf and emulate the same so as to bail out people in dire need of [blood] supply in various hospitals, this according to Chimbali.
MBTS has been appealing to Malawians of good will to make a donation of blood following low supply of the same in hospital banks.
Among others, the blood is given to those involved in road accidents, pregnant mothers slated to go through caesarian operation and those suffering from blood loss-related infections, anaemia inclusive.
