The Malawi National Women’s Football team Coach McNelbert Kazuwa says his team is geared to take on any team at the 2020 COSAFA Senior Women’s Championship slated for South Africa next month.
The remarks come after the draw which was conducted this morning at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, South Africa which has seen the Schorchers drawn in Group B alongside neighbors Zambia and Lesotho.
Kazuwa says the team is being prepared mentally to face any team that comes their way at the tournament.
“We have been waiting for this draw and it’s good to be in the same group with Zambia and Lesotho as they will give us a good run for our money,” said Kazuwa.
He added that this time around they will take a different approach on the games for the team to make it.
“Even though we lost against Zambia during the 2017 Cosafa championship, we believe that we are going to challenge them this time because we all have different squads now and it won’t be the same,” he said.
According to Cosafa, the Schorchers will kickoff their campaign on November 7, 2020, with an encounter against Lesotho before facing Zambia two days later.
Hosts South Africa are in group A alongside Comoros, Angola and Eswatini while group C has Botswana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
Each group winner and the overall best runner-up will progress to the semifinals of the tournament.
The 2020 Cosafa Women’s Championship edition will take place in Port Elizabeth, South Africa between 3-14 November.
