Malawi Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima has kept his reputation of being a man of his words by honoring the pledge he made to second tier side, Chintheche United of Nkhatabay district to buy football jersey and footballs.
The second citizen made the pledge to Chintheche United football club during a whistle stop held at chintheche trading center where he promised two sets of football jersey and 10 match balls which have been handed over to the team.
Speaking after receiving the equipment, the team’s team manager, Wilson Ngwira said he was grateful for the gesture shown by the vice president of the country for fulfilling his promise to the team which is run by the community.
“First of all we want to thank the Vice President, yes he pledged to buy 10 match balls and 2 sets of jersey and today we have finally received 25 match balls, 2 sets of jersey and pair of socks, As a club we will make sure to use the equipment properly as we have been longing to own such materials for a long time,” said Ngwira
In his remarks concerning the development, Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) general Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu commended the Vice President for the timely donation.
“As an Association we are proud to hear this that the Vice President fulfilled his pledge, as you are aware that many teams lack materials, it is our prayer that if they can also look into other things such as Infrastructures,” he said.
Chintheche united football club plays its trade in the Simso Northern Region Football league, and in their maiden 2019 season managed to finish on position 4.
The team is also calling on well-wishers to support them as they also have logistical challenges where the season kicks off.
