Government has revealed its plans to outsource the services of eligible firms or individuals to run the country’s two major stadiums.
The stadiums eye marked for privatisation are the Blantyre’s soccer maker Kamuzu Stadium and Lilongwe’s soccer arena Bingu National Stadium.
The government reasons that in an effort to achieve efficient management of the facilities a tender for bids will be released for potential firms to compete.
Making this announcement, the Minister of Youth and Sports Ulemu Msungama said this is part of the reforms that his ministry will be implementing.
It is important for stadiums to be independent and sustain themselves just like any commercial entity.
As it is now, Bingu national stadium is in deep loans calculated above 90 million Kwacha.
