Newly elected Beach Soccer Association of Malawi (BSA) chairperson, Gift Chimbalanga has said he will dwell much on unearthing talent in the country as one way of developing the game to match with other developing and developed countries.
On Saturday the county’s football governing body, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) organized an extra ordinary general assembly which its main agenda was to usher in new executive members of BSA. The meeting took place at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.
Speaking after his triumph, Chimbalanga said the elections are gone, now is the time to kick the ball rolling and make sure Beach soccer is a household name in the country as well as across the waters.
“First and foremost what we have to do in this game is that, we have to make sure that we should start with the grassroots because it is the future of Beach soccer in Malawi. We will make sure that the first activity to do is to get down to the grassroots where we will introduce under 12, 15 and 18 tournaments so that we have adequate talent for exposure,” said Chimbalanga
The chairperson added that they will introduce courses for coaches and other stakeholders in the game and also have enough infrastructure for the game in the country.
“We are going to have workshops where we would want to see coaches, referees and all those who are involved in the running of the game get equipped and updated in the matters of the game. In the past we had FIFA facilitators coming over here, we want that to happen on another level.”
We need to have infrastructures because there is going to be time when we are going to host international tournaments and then we would want to make sure we are ready with enough infrastructure to help us rise to the occasion in hosting such international,” he said.
On his part, FAM vice president Jabar Alide hailed the way the committee was elected and urged the new executive to review its constitution to align with the constitution of FAM.
“The Football Association of Malawi has got minimum requirements for all the constitution of its affiliates, I note with regret that the current constitution of Beach soccer association is below minimum of which FAM has set and it is required of the new committee to embark on a serious review of their constitution so that they match with that of FAM, we have an obligation under the FIFA statutes to make sure that all our statutes align and follow the same structure to make sure that they answer to the requirements of football administration wise and also operation wise,” Chimbalanga said.
During the EGM there were delegates from all the districts that participates in the league like Karonga, Nkhatabay, Salima, Nkhotakota and Mangochi.
Gift Chimbalanga got the better of Mike Bwanali to rise to the helm of the Association while former Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers player, Panganani Ndovi went unopposed on the position of vice chairperson. Wakisa Mwambetania also went unopposed on the position of general secretary with Jayne Jella grabbing the vice secretary position unopposed too. Force Ngwira was elected as the treasurer while Fred Banda will be his vice, the organising secretary post went to Willy Kumilambe and the executive committee members are Andy Khunga, Edwin Mtachi and Samson Malipa.
Lately the Beach Soccer national team has been participating in the Copa Dar es Salaam as guests where the team has been performing well after finishing third on two occasions.
