Malawi Football governing body, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says two players and two officials tested positive to Covid-19 on their first day to report to camp.

The Flames regrouped on Monday at Mpira Village in Blantyre ahead of Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers in November.

Confirming the development, FAM Director of competions and Media, Gomezgani Zakazaka said all people involved with the national team were tested and there are no players who are carrying injuries.

“We must say that from the results there were four individuals who tested postive and because of ethical issues we are not disclosing the names of these players but we have to report that the four are currently in isolation and are being monitored by the FAM medical team and what is going to happen is that we will wait for ten days before these four can rejoin their collegaues, this is per the ministry of health guidelines on Covid-19,” said Zakazaka.

Zakazaka also said they will do everything to ensure that all sanity measures are followed during this football gathering as they have put in camping guidelines so as to make sure everyone accessing the camping area at Mpira Village is protected.

FAM is this week expected to announce if the Flames will take part at the Cosafa senior challenge cup or if it will just play international friendly matches.

Cosafa tournament is scheduled from 2nd October to October 17 in Durban, South Africa.
