Misunderstanding has rocked in the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) as elections approach.
Recently the NRFA received letters from district football committees calling for the football governing body in the north to hold elections earlier than the expected month of December.
Confirming the development, NRFA general Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu said the district football associations who are also affiliates made the request following what they call ‘poor coordination by the executive in running the league’.
Nyasulu added that now they are waiting for Football Association of Malawi( FAM) to approve their new proposed date for the elections.
“It’s true we received the letters and in their respective letters they indicated that the move has been made following the divisions which they have cited in the Association and now we have settled for 18th October as the day when new faces will be ushered into the executive committee,” Said Nyasulu.
He also played down the sentiments that other districts did not propose the new date for the elections.
“I speak for NRFA and I am talking about what is on my table but we are in a democratic world where everyone is free to give out his opinion but also the majority rules in every situation,” he said.
However, Mzuzu district football Association chairperson, George Kaunda said he is surprised with the move to rush the elections.
“I am surprised that other districts have written to the NRFA asking for the reschedule without our concent which is not normal under normal circumstances, we ought to work together and not what has happened, there is no need to rush the elections after all December is not far from now, am afraid because I don’t know what they want to achieve at the end of the day,” Said Kaunda.
The battle lines have been drawn as Lameck Khonje will be defending his position as chairperson against his then vice Felix Mbonekera Msiska.
Former Karonga United chairperson Alufeyo Chipanga Banda is vying for the vice Chairperson post.
Current Treasure general, Chauka Mwansinga will face a stiff competition from Obua Mwamsamali on the post.
General secretary, Masiya Nyasulu will go head to head with the fixtures secretary, Ollens Msonda.
Pickford Kamanga, Desire Bellings and Dominic Msowoya will be fighting for the post of vice general secretary.
NRFA affiliates includes premier and division football clubs and districts football committees.
