Yusuf Mwawa has been entrusted with the position of National publicity secretary for United Democratic Front (UDF) on temporary basis replacing Ken Ndanga who is facing murder charges.
Ndanga is suspected of playing a role in the torching of a UTM office at Area 24 in Lilongwe where three lives were lost belonging to the Tambala family who were residents at the office.
The party’s secretary general, Kandi Padambo has released a statement which says the appointment is with immediate effect.
“I write to advise that it has pleased the party president Honourable Atupele Muluzi to approve the appointment of Honourable Yusuf Mwawa as acting National publicity secretary with immediate effect, this follows the regrettable circumstances involving the arrest and subsequent charging of Honourable Ken Ndanga,” reads part of the statement
The statement also says Hon Yusuf Mwawa is a substantively the party’s National Director of Research and will exercise the duties and responsibilities of the office of National publicity secretary until the judicial conclusion of the matter in which Hon Ken Ndanga is suspected to have been involved in.
During this year’s Presidential elections UDF partnered with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) but were defeated by the Tonse Alliance to the helm of running the country.
