Councilor for Chiputula ward Hiwett Wiseman Mkadawire has ditched Alliance For Democracy (AFORD) for United Transformation Movement (UTM) barely a week after Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo did the same.

Speaking to the press on Monday evening Mkandawire said he has left AFORD because there is no democracy and freedom as the party does not recognize his presence.

“Ever since 2013, no proper convention has taken place. There’s no democracy and freedom in AFORD and they do recognise me as their councilor”, Said Mkandawire.

Reacting to the development spokesperson for AFORD Khumbo Mwaungulu squashed the allegations saying people are leaving because they are frustrated since no party from the north has been considered in the government of Tonse alliance.

“As a party we joined Tonse alliance and these people worked tirelessly with expectations that parties from the north will be taken on board. Unfortunately, it has not turned out like that so people think there’s no future for parties from the north in the new administration”, said Mwaungulu.

On a similar issue, AFORD National director for women Mary Mbezuma Mfune also announced her resignation from the party saying she wants to work with Dr Saulos Chilima.

However, she dismissed rumours going around social media that she has done so following Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo.

AFORD is amongst one of the parties from the northern region that joined the Tonse Alliance in the recent presidential re-run elections.
