Police in Dowa are looking for unknown criminals who have attacked a couple and robbed them of their property.
On Thursday, October 15 2020, the victim, Wilson Gondwe aged 48 together with his wife were going to Mzimba from South Africa.
At around 1900 hours, the couple boarded a taxi black in colour at Kanengo Depot to Mzimba with three other passengers already aboard.
When the vehicle passed Dowa Turn Off area, the driver turned towards Chivala Primary School area where the three criminals jointly attacked the couple with knives.
The criminals also searched the couple and stole everything they had except South African Rands which the husband kept in his clothes.
The criminals went away with various items including K22, 500 cash, a black Samsung laptop, 5 mobile phones, fuel pump injector, 5 laptop bags, 7 Malawian Passports, driving licence, 2 South African Temporary IDs, Covid-19 certificates, 2 travelling bags and a lady hand bag, full of clothes and other items all costing K2 Million.
The type of the motor vehicle including its registration number is still unknown.
Meanwhile, enquiries are underway to trace and arrest the culprits and recover the stolen items.
The couple comes from Chikozola Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba District.
Police wish to advise people to be cautious when boarding vehicles especially at night. Police further advise people to ensure that they have known the registration numbers of the motor vehicle they are travelling in to avoid such incidents.
