Akometsi Reporter

The country’s first traffic interchange has opened this morning for motorists in the capital city-Lilongwe.

The interchange which is intended to reduce traffic congestion in the city has also added beauty to the road infrastructure in the capital.

Being the first of its kind in the country, motorists are still learning how to get through the world standard interchange.

While some motorists found it easy to maneuver through the interchange sideway loops, others are still struggling.

Akometsi observation of traffic this morning has shown that the the interchange has indeed eased traffic congestion at the place formerly known as Area 18 roundabout.

Most motorists who spoke to Akometsi agree that the K7.6 billion project which was financed by the NBS bank has been timely.

Much as most of the routes were clear, the road from the interchange to Bwandilo was highly congested cars are now forced to pile in a single lane road.

Government has assured the citizenry that it will continue to construct dual carriages around the city including from the interchange via Bwandilo via Crossroads to Simama roundabout.

  1. The road interchange in Lilongwe is one positive development by the government. Considering there is too much congestion, the government is doing well in improving road infrastructure within the city.
