Reform or Go Home! Veep instructs MIM leadership

By Blessingz Mtika

Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima, who is also Minister of Economic Planning and Development and Public Sector Reforms, has warned the management of Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) to get organized or resign as they failed to be in control of their presentation in a meeting they had with him on 9th September, 2020.

Writing on his Facebook page Chilima described MIMs presentation as “the most uninspiring portrait of an organization” ever since he resumed working on reforms under the new administration of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera hence sending them back to prepare well.

“As of now MIM is about organization that is being run down. It is regressing. I told them I do not have time to waste and they better come again when they are ready and prepared for a discussion meant to perfect an organization,” said the vice president.

With an overview of the financial presentation which talked about accumulating taxes arrears, pension and challenges in cash flow, Chilima concluded the organization was on its death bed since the director who has been in the office for 3 years could not justify the situation.

“From their financial presentation, one can tell that the organization is on its deathbed… I expected the Executive Director to be in control of the situation and explain what has led to the current state of affairs and possible solutions… However, it seemed the ED did not have any idea,” said Chilima.

The vice president has been conducting several meetings with different institutions in taking stock of public sector reforms aimed at making the institutions efficient and effective.
