A man in Ntchisi has been arrested on suspicion of banging up and impregnating his two under aged nieces.
According to Ntchisi police spokesperson, Richard Kaponda, the suspect had been on the run for a long time and he was arrested on Sunday. Police also found him with charms which he confessed that they have been helping him to escape his arrest.
Kaponda identified the suspect as Yosefe Chitedze, 41 years old and hails from Gulumuleni Village, Traditional Authority Kalumo in the district.
Kaponda said: “The suspect had been defiling her niece since 2017 and threatened to kill her if she disclosed anything. All turned sour after the victim became pregnant and named her uncle responsible for the pregnancy.”
According to Kaponda, the second victim was defiled and impregnated last year.
In the meantime, both victims have children fathered by Chitedze who has been charged with two cases of defilement and will appear in court soon.
In related to development, police in Phalombe have also arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl.
According to Phalombe Police spokesperson, Innocent Moses, the suspect Mphatso Muchawa, forced himself to the child on July 17 in his house at Kolowiko Village in the district. He then threatened to hand the victim to police if she revealed the incident.
However, the child told her mother about her ordeal who later reported the crime to Nambazo Police Unit who arrested the suspect.
