Tension ensued at the Malawi Electoral Commission headquarters in Blantyre yesterday where angry presiding officers wanted to seal offices of the electoral body.
Our reporter has established that officers who presided over the June 23rd FPE in Blantyre were underpaid as compared to their counterparts from across the country. One of the representatives of the POs, who spoke on conditions of anonymity said for three months now, they have tried to engage the management of MEC over the issue but to no avail.
“We were not paid transport and lunch allowances as per our contract’s agreement. We wanted to wreak havoc here, but on a second thought we have unanimously agreed to consult the Office of the Ombudsman for legal counsel.
