Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) is in dire need of oxygen cylinders, Akometsi can confirm.
Our reporter understands the shortage comes in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic as the hospital is currently nursing 20 patients suffering from the infection.
The patients of the disease require frequent oxygen supply.
One of the hospital’s officials, Caroline Mwalwanda, said the patients require three cylinders per day.
“We have 20 Covid-19 patients here at KCH, and the patients require three cylinders per each day,” lamented Mwalwanda.
She further said the few available cylinders are also the ones serving other units like Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) respectively.
Meanwhile, Chancellor College 2001 Alumni has a bit cushioned the problem by donating K1.6 million.
Malawi’s hospital conditions have been in bad shape for decades, a scenario that has witnessed preventable deaths occurring.
