The ministry of Agriculture and Food Security says the affordable inputs programme will now benefit 4.2 million smallholder farmers a development that is expected to push its budget to K178billion. This means 700 thousand more smallholder farmers from the initial 3.5million smallholder farmers will benefit from the programme.
Spokesperson in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Priscilla Mateyu said the revision follows the available data on the number of smallholder farmers in the country.
Mateyu further said the programme is meant to carter for all the smallholder farmers within the database.
“The database has 4.2million smallholder farmers and these are the ones who will be targeted” she said.
Smallholders famers in the country will have 50kg bag of Urea and NPK and 5Kg of maize seed from the subsidized package which will cost K4,495.
