HRDC to meet Police Inspector General today

Human Rights Defenders Coalition through its leaders are, today the 4th of August 2020 meeting newly appointed Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Dr. George Kainja, for a discussion on a number of issues pertaining to police and civil society relations.

Among other things, the HRDC shall bring to the table, for discussion, outstanding issues touching on human rights and freedom violations including the alleged Nsundwe rape cases, the alleged murder of Robert Chasowa and the brutal killing of Issah Njauju and how the said cases can be expedited for justice to take its course.

HRDC also said they will bring to the attention of the new IG the whistleblower initiative which has brought to bear overwhelming cases of alleged corruption, fraud among some public officers in the country.

Writing on his Facebook page HRDC leader Gift Trapence said, at the meeting, they are hoping to explore all means and ways through which it can work together with the Malawi Police Service in safeguarding human rights in Malawi.
