Government through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban development says it is set to reclaim illegally acquired land in Zomba City Council.
The remarks were made by Deputy Minister of lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Abida Mia during a familiarization tour she had in Zomba on Monday.
“My Ministry will verify ownership of plots in the country and take back those illegally acquired.” Said the Deputy Minister.
Mia said her Ministry discovered there was a lot of mess in distribution and allocation of plots.
The minister further acknowledged that some people have the right documents for the plots but are in protected areas while some do not have the documents for the plots.
The Minister added that government will demolish all the structures that are in protected areas without compensation.

Zomba City Council Mayor Benson Bullah said Zomba, just like other cities has experienced multiple illegal land sales by Officers.
Bullah thanked the Deputy Minister for visiting the council citing her visit was an opportunity for them to address the land issues.
