The Malawi vice president, Dr Saulos Chilima on Monday, 21 September, 2020 launched a Yara International program themed ‘thriving farm, thriving future’ aimed at helping the less privileged farmers at Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi offices at Kanengo in Lilongwe.
In his words, the vice president on behalf of President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, described the development as recommendable by the government of Malawi since it is in line with its Tonse vision in ending hunger.
“The coming in of Action Africa to target farmers who are economically disadvantaged that even the K4, 495 bag of fertilizer is beyond reach for them, is highly commendable and appreciated by the government”, said Chilima.
He further appealed to the entities that will be in charge of distributing the farm inputs to the Farmers to be transparent when carrying out the task.
“I would like to thank the African fertilizer and agribusiness and all the organizations that will be taking the task of distributing these inputs to our famers, please ensure transparency and correctness of this program”, said Chilima.
The donation by Yara international through Action Africa Partnership has come at a time when Malawians are still waiting for the implementation of the reduced fertilizer promised by the Tonse alliance which is the ruling party. Through this Yara program, the underprivileged farmers will get free fertilizer and maize seeds.
