Vice president Saulos Chilima who is also minister of Economic planning and development and public sector reforms hosted talks on public sector reforms with Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) and National Audit Office (NAO) friday at capital hill in Lilongwe
According to his facebook page, Chilima firstly met Executive secretary Of MHRC, Mr Wilson Mwafulira who presented a proposal on review of 5 areas of human rights.
“I have welcomed the proposed legal reform to review the Human Rights Commission Act so that it responds to modernity. I also strongly recommended that the amendment must be comprehensive to avoid coming back to the same document within three years for another reView”, said Chilima.
He then met with the acting auditor general to appreciate the progress made and challenges the office faces in it daily undertakings which he described as remarkable.
“Basing on my discussion with the Acting Auditor General, Mr. Rexie Chiluzi, NAO has made remarkable progress on expanding the scope of audit areas to include parastatals”, said Chilima said.
However the veep stated that there are new opportunities still existing for NAO to introduce procurement audits, information system audits and projects audits in a bid to further expand its scope and ensure that there is value for money for taxpayers.
The discussions were a continuation of the government reforms program which among others seeks to improve the operations of government agencies, departments, ministries and parastatals.
