State President Lazarus Chakwera will deliver his maiden State of National Address (SONA) at parliament under strict COVID-19 preventive measures on 4th September, 2020.

According to state House Press Secretary, Brian Banda, they have received communication from parliament that the opening ceremony will be held in marquees outside the house as one of the preventive measures against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have been told that for the first time, the ceremony will take place outside parliament. We have been told that they have put a marquee and issues of social distance will be taken heed of and people will be encouraged to wash their hands and put on masks,” Said Banda.

The president will be opening the house which will deliberate this year’s national budget.

Former president, Peter Mutharika delivered his final SONA through a video recording on the grounds of taking precautions against the spread of Covid-19.
