People with albinism have come out of cocoon to claim K600 million money meant for construction of their houses.
The money was approaved in the 2019-2020 National Budget, but according to them, upto date, not a foundation of even a single house can be traced.
National Coordinator for the people, Overstone Kondowe, said the association has already penned the lands ministry over the matter.
“We wonder where the money is yet it was already approaved. We do not have the houses now,” lamented Kondowe.
According to Kondowe, the money was meant to construct 100 houses, each equivalent to K6 million.
The Ministry of Lands confirmed knowledge of the matter.
“Indeed there was an allocation for such a development, but during the mid-year budget review later on, there was a shortfall of money,” explained Enoch Chingoni who is the ministy’s spokesperson.
The houses were meant to act as a security measure for the people following cases of brutal murder and abductions, among other abuses, they faced in the country.
